Joint Commission’s
National Patient Safety Goals® (NPSG’s) for 2023 became effective on July 1,
2023 (TJC 2023). The 2023 NPSG’s are in the following categories:
· Identify patients correctly
· Improve staff communication
· Use medicines safely
· Use alarms safely
· Prevent infection
· Identify patient safety risks (prevent
suicides)
· Improve health care equity
· Prevent mistakes in surgery
The University of
Southern California Executive MHA Blog has a nice description of the 2023
NPSG’s along with background information about the NPSG’s and strategies to
meet the goals (USC 2023).
Joint Commission
also provides links to the NPSG’s in a simple, easy-to-read format and the chapter format.

each category.
